Cala Fornells & Pirates

At Cala Fornells beach, enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the beaches of Paguera, Santa Ponsa, and Caló de Ses Llisses. The pirates Barbarossa and the brothers Horuch and Kaid Ben Eddin Dragut raided Cala Fornells. They enslaved captives to sell in the markets of Algiers.

Defence Tower

The Watchtower at Cap Andritxol, between Camp de Mar and Cala Fornells, was built in 1580 and offers a unique view of the Andritxol coast. The cylindrical tower has a vaulted main chamber and a terrace accessible via a ladder.

Cross of the Landing of James I

In 1229, King Jaume I first arrived at Santa Ponsa with his army to conquer Mallorca, which was Muslim at the time. After a great battle, they succeeded in capturing the island.

Smuggling in Mallorca was a major activity from the 18th and 19th centuries, fueled by trade restrictions and high taxes imposed by the Spanish government. Smugglers used small boats and hideouts in coves and caves to evade authorities.
